The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Jalon Walker, the No. 21 name on the board, sitting there at pick 168 like a gift left on the doorstep.
The Truss pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The back end got a real overhaul.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.12
· Pick 12
· Nick Emmanwori
· S
· rank 13
In pick 12 they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value. More want than need.
R2.12
· Pick 44
· Omarion Hampton
· RB
· rank 15
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 44 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.12
· Pick 76
· Walter Nolen
· DT
· rank 22
Taking Walter Nolen in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.11
· Pick 148
· Savion Williams
· WR
· rank 110
Somehow Savion Williams was still sitting there in the 148th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.31
· Pick 168
· Jalon Walker
· LB
· rank 21
They barely believed it either: Jalon Walker still on the board at No. 168. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.33
· Pick 170
· Andrew Mukuba
· S
· rank 69
You do not let a safety like Andrew Mukuba reach the 170th pick and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R5.36
· Pick 173
· Hayden Conner
· OG
· rank 148
The board fumbled Hayden Conner all the way to slot 173, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.11
· Pick 186
· Xavier Truss
· OT
· rank 276
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Truss this early at Round 6, Pick 11. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.34
· Pick 209
· Davison Igbinosun
· CB
· rank 225
Davison Igbinosun in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.32
· Pick 248
· Jake Briningstool
· TE
· rank 220
Circle this one: Jake Briningstool at Round 7, Pick 32 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
