You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jasheen Davis at slot 249, roughly 112 spots before his name belonged.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones Jr.. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that.
They paid sticker price for Matthew Golden in Round 2, Pick 12, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Omarr Norman-Lott in the 76th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Jay Higgins was the payoff at slot 150. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Emery Jones Jr. at No. 170 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hayden Conner in the Round 5 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Robert Spears-Jennings at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cobee Bryant at the 190th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jack Kiser slipping to slot 211 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Jasheen Davis at Round 7, Pick 31, and the board did not agree. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
