The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Jasheen Davis, taking him 99 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to pick 44, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kaleb Johnson at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ricky White III at the 148th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for Nazir Stackhouse, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jake Majors in pick No. 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 173rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Jacob Parrish in pick No. 186, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Jasheen Davis in the 209th pick says they were not listening. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They will replay Elijah Arroyo at Round 7, Pick 32 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
