The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 122 spots for Jasheen Davis, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
That Mondon Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
Luther Burden III at the 44th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omarr Norman-Lott in slot 76. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Luke Kandra at pick No. 148 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 5, Pick 31 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Lathan Ransom all the way to pick 170, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in slot 173, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Jasheen Davis at pick 186, and the board is aghast. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
You do not let a tight end like Elijah Arroyo reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
KJ Jefferson at pick No. 248 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
