Dallas Cowboys

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Cowboys.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Barryn Sorrell in Round 6, Pick 33. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

That Spears-Jennings pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In No. 12 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Isaiah Bond · WR · rank 54
Isaiah Bond at slot 44 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 61
Demetrius Knight Jr. slipping to Round 3, Pick 12 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 131
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Darius Alexander in the 150th pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 146
Robert Spears-Jennings at pick 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Xavier Scott · CB · rank 167
Xavier Scott at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Jake Briningstool · TE · rank 248
Jake Briningstool at Round 5, Pick 35 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 185
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 190 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 328
A big swing on Barryn Sorrell at pick No. 211, well ahead of any board in the building. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Hunter Wohler · S · rank 250
Hunter Wohler in the 249th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
