There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Jasheen Davis a full 112 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
That Hill pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot.
Tyler Warren in slot 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Isaiah Bond at No. 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Cody Simon in the 150th overall pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
JJ Pegues in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Tommi Hill all the way to the 172nd pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jonah Monheim in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Logan Brown at pick No. 190 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylen Reed at the 211th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jasheen Davis at the 249th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
