The Cowboys bet big and early on Jasheen Davis, 132 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stutsman. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in slot 44, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; T.J. Sanders at pick 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Jake Majors at pick No. 148 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Danny Stutsman in the 168th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jasheen Davis in Round 5, Pick 33 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Tosh Baker at No. 173 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Mitchell Evans here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Hancock at pick No. 209 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Fentrell Cypress II in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
