Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent the 168th pick on Jasheen Davis, a name the board had a full 138 spots lower. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stutsman. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
Grover Stewart gives the group a proven body among the projects. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ashton Jeanty in slot 14. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Derrick Harmon at pick No. 44 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Jayden Higgins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Luke Kandra in pick 115, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Danny Stutsman at the 148th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jasheen Davis at Round 5, Pick 31 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Quinn Carroll in the 170th pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Robert Spears-Jennings at slot 173 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylin Smith this early at the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Terrance Ferguson was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for KJ Jefferson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 232nd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Hunter Wohler in pick No. 248, a genuine coup. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
