The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 100 spots for KJ Jefferson, and value like that does not grow back. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They banked enough surplus on Jones Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Ashton Jeanty come to them and pounced at slot 12. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Matthew Golden in pick No. 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Deone Walker at the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Jay Higgins, who had no business lasting to the 150th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Emery Jones Jr. was still sitting there in pick 170, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Hayden Conner in Round 5, Pick 33 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Robert Spears-Jennings in the 174th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Cobee Bryant in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jake Briningstool well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
KJ Jefferson at the 249th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
