You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Barryn Sorrell at slot 148, roughly 131 spots before his name belonged.
Carter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Omarr Norman-Lott in the 76th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Kaimon Rucker at pick 89, well ahead of any board in the building. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Barryn Sorrell at pick No. 148, and the board is aghast. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board fumbled Barrett Carter all the way to slot 168, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Miles Frazier this early at the 170th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Tonka Hemingway in pick No. 173, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Robert Spears-Jennings still on the board at pick 186. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Brandon Adams at Round 6, Pick 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for KJ Jefferson. It fills a real need, too.
