Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent No. 249 on Jasheen Davis, a name most had 112 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ransom. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ashton Jeanty at pick No. 12. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at the 44th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalen Royals in slot 76. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Emery Jones Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kobe King at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jonah Monheim at pick 172 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Mitchell Evans all the way to pick 174, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Lathan Ransom was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in Round 6, Pick 33, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jasheen Davis this early at No. 249. A minor itch, scratched.
