The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Azareye'h Thomas, slot 190, roughly 128 picks past where he belonged. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They will need Jefferson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kaleb Johnson in the 44th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Jalen Royals was the payoff at pick No. 76. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Deone Walker at Round 5, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Shemar Turner at No. 170 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Cody Simon in pick 172, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tight end of that caliber at the 174th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Azareye'h Thomas at slot 190 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Lathan Ransom all the way to pick No. 211, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
