Nobody else had Jasheen Davis anywhere near No. 168. The Cowboys did, by 149 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
On value alone, Ransom makes the weekend a net positive. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They let Derrick Harmon come to them and pounced at the 44th pick. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Jayden Higgins in slot 76, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Carson Schwesinger at the 148th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Jasheen Davis in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 33 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jalen Travis in slot 173 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Lathan Ransom at No. 186 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wild overpay on Jake Briningstool in the 209th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Logan Parr, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
