Nobody else had Jasheen Davis anywhere near pick 249. The Cowboys did, by 111 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Ransom pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
No drama and no debate, Matthew Golden went about where he belonged in pick 44. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Alfred Collins in the 76th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Kiser. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jonah Monheim at pick No. 170 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Hollin Pierce at the 172nd pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Lathan Ransom in the 174th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jabbar Muhammad in Round 6, Pick 12, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Mitchell Evans was still sitting there in No. 211, and they pounced on premier tight end value. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jasheen Davis well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
