They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jasheen Davis, 149 picks early at No. 168. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
That Schwesinger pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that.
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Booker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Alfred Collins reach Round 3, Pick 12 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A big swing on Jasheen Davis at slot 168, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Carson Schwesinger here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Reed went about where he belonged in pick 186. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Somehow Oronde Gadsden II was still sitting there in pick No. 209, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Shilo Sanders at the 248th overall pick, and it noticed. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
