Dallas Cowboys

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cowboys and Ransom: B.

Somebody in the 248th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Lathan Ransom, the No. 109 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

They will need Jefferson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense. Their trades came out a wash either way.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Travis Hunter · CB · rank 1
In slot 12 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Derrick Harmon · DT · rank 29
Derrick Harmon at No. 44 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 24
Emeka Egbuka at pick 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.20 · Pick 157 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 105
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at the 157th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 87
Somehow Carson Schwesinger was still sitting there in the 168th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Jake Majors · C · rank 107
Taking Jake Majors in Round 5, Pick 33 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Davin Vann · DE-EDGE · rank 247
Value said wait; Davin Vann in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 142
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 186, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Xavier Truss · OT · rank 281
They reached into another round for Xavier Truss, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · KJ Jefferson · QB · rank 305
A big swing on KJ Jefferson at the 213th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Lathan Ransom · S · rank 109
They barely believed it either: Lathan Ransom still on the board at the 248th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
