Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Barryn Sorrell at Round 7, Pick 31 is 62 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The Shough pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
A reach on Alfred Collins in pick No. 44; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalen Royals slid further than he should have, and the 76th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in pick 150, where Cody Simon graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Chase Lundt at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Tyler Shough in the 172nd pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Hayden Conner at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylen Reed in No. 190. A minor itch, scratched.
They talked themselves into Jake Briningstool at Round 6, Pick 33, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Barryn Sorrell. It adds depth where they could use a little.
