Nobody else had Jasheen Davis anywhere near the 168th pick. The Cowboys did, by 149 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Schwesinger steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

In the Round 1 slot they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot.
Malaki Starks at pick 44 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Deone Walker at pick No. 76. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jasheen Davis at No. 168 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Carson Schwesinger in slot 170, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Jalen Travis at pick No. 186, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Mitchell Evans here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for KJ Jefferson at No. 248, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
