Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Barryn Sorrell at slot 186 is 102 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That Stutsman pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Luther Burden III all the way to pick 44, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Kaleb Johnson was still sitting there in the 76th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Aeneas Peebles in pick No. 148 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Danny Stutsman in No. 168 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jack Nelson at the 170th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaeden Roberts at pick 173 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Barryn Sorrell in the 186th pick, miles early. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They will replay Robert Spears-Jennings at Round 6, Pick 34 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jamaree Caldwell this early at pick No. 248. The roster fit checks out.
