The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Jalon Walker slide 101 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They are betting Robinson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The veteran additions, Zack Moss chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 17 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Grey Zabel is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A conviction pick on Dylan Sampson at pick 49 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Jaxson Dart at slot 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Alfred Collins at the 118th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalon Walker in the 122nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Oronde Gadsden II slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 11 is lovely value for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Lathan Ransom in No. 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Tommi Hill was still sitting there in No. 172, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Mello Dotson in slot 174, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Earnest Greene III at the 190th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Que Robinson in pick 195, miles early. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Seth McLaughlin at Round 6, Pick 33 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Karene Reid in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Jordan Hancock in pick No. 249 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
