Dallas Cowboys

Starks should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Malaki Starks had no business being available in the 148th pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They are betting Williams proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 3
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Circle this one: Ashton Jeanty at the 46th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 24
Emeka Egbuka in pick No. 76 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.15 · Pick 116 · Derrick Harmon · DT · rank 29
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Derrick Harmon reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 12
Malaki Starks in No. 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 87
They barely believed it either: Carson Schwesinger still on the board at pick 168. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 108
Steal is underselling it; Jared Wilson at slot 170 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Trey Zuhn III · OT · rank 206
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Zuhn III in the 173rd overall pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Terrance Ferguson · TE · rank 120
Terrance Ferguson in No. 186 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Nohl Williams · CB · rank 260
A wild overpay on Nohl Williams in Round 6, Pick 34, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Jack Kiser · LB · rank 200
They will replay Jack Kiser at pick 248 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
