Somebody in pick 248 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 110 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The cost of the White III reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Travis Hunter slipping to the 12th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Tyleik Williams in pick 44, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in pick No. 76, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Carson Schwesinger in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jake Majors at slot 168 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ricky White III well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jaylen Reed in Round 6, Pick 8, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
You do not let a tight end like Terrance Ferguson reach No. 186 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Oronde Gadsden II in slot 209 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Hancock went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 7, Pick 32 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
