There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took KJ Jefferson a full 93 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Majors falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Matthew Golden in the 44th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Deone Walker at slot 76 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Deontae Lawson in pick No. 148 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in pick 168, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Sonny Styles in the 170th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They robbed the room for Robert Spears-Jennings here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jacob Parrish in No. 186, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take KJ Jefferson this early at pick 209. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Garrett Dellinger in the 247th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
