Nobody had Jasheen Davis this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 130 spots to get him at the 173rd overall pick.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
T.J. Sanders at the 44th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalon Walker in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jake Majors at the 148th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Pat Bryant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Lathan Ransom still on the board at slot 170. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jasheen Davis. A minor itch, scratched.
A slide stopped in the Round 6 slot, with Joshua Gray worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Aydan White in pick No. 209 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Will Rogers at pick 248, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
