Nobody had Jasheen Davis this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 112 spots to get him at pick 229. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Higgins at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Kaleb Johnson at par in pick No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Omarr Norman-Lott at the 76th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Kurtis Rourke at slot 164 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Jay Higgins in Round 5, Pick 31 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Oronde Gadsden II all the way to No. 172, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dorian Strong at the 174th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They went early on Jack Kiser in pick 190, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Miles Frazier in pick No. 211 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Jasheen Davis in slot 229 is miles ahead of his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Hunter Wohler in No. 249, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
