The rest of the league will want that one back. Jay Higgins tumbling to the Cowboys in pick No. 170 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
If Crenshaw-Dickson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at the 44th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dylan Sampson in No. 76 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Howard Cross III at slot 150 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 170 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kurtis Rourke in pick No. 172 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Hayden Conner at Round 6, Pick 12, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylen Reed in the 211th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A big swing on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at slot 249, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
