Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Majors got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at No. 173. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Davis has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Abdul Carter at the 12th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nick Emmanwori in No. 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Kaleb Johnson at pick 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kyren Lacy at pick No. 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Shemar Turner. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Smael Mondon Jr. all the way to the 170th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Jabbar Muhammad still on the board at slot 186. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, J.C. Davis in No. 209 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
KJ Jefferson in the 248th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
