Dallas Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Smith: B.

The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Brashard Smith, the No. 116 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

The cost of the Skattebo reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 3
In pick No. 12 they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 24
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 44th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 105
A real head-scratcher, Cam Skattebo in Round 3, Pick 12 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 110
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 150, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Ajani Cornelius · OT · rank 115
Ajani Cornelius in No. 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Willie Lampkin · OG · rank 172
No drama and no debate, Willie Lampkin went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Jordan Phillips · DT · rank 112
Jordan Phillips in slot 174 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Cobee Bryant · CB · rank 180
They let Cobee Bryant come to them and pounced at the 190th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 182
You do not let a safety like Jaylen Reed reach No. 211 and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Brashard Smith · RB · rank 116
Brashard Smith at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
