The Howard pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Kaleb Johnson at slot 44 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Bond at pick No. 76, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Darius Alexander at pick 150 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Will Howard at No. 170 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Dorian Strong at Round 5, Pick 33 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Jay Higgins in pick No. 174; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

Torricelli Simpkins III at No. 211 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
