Nobody else had Jasheen Davis anywhere near Round 7, Pick 31. The Cowboys did, by 95 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.12
· Pick 12
· Tetairoa McMillan
· WR
· rank 9
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.12
· Pick 44
· Omarion Hampton
· RB
· rank 32
Value with a capital V on Omarion Hampton in the 44th overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.12
· Pick 76
· Xavier Watts
· S
· rank 46
The board fumbled Xavier Watts all the way to slot 76, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.11
· Pick 150
· Charles Grant
· OT
· rank 94
Taking Charles Grant in pick 150 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.31
· Pick 170
· Will Howard
· QB
· rank 103
Will Howard at Round 5, Pick 31 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.33
· Pick 172
· Jacob Parrish
· CB
· rank 125
A cornerback of that caliber at the 172nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.35
· Pick 174
· Kevin Winston Jr.
· S
· rank 98
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 174 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.12
· Pick 190
· Quincy Riley
· CB
· rank 171
Somehow Quincy Riley was still sitting there in No. 190, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.33
· Pick 211
· Darius Alexander
· DT
· rank 126
They barely believed it either: Darius Alexander still on the board at the 211th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.31
· Pick 249
· Jasheen Davis
· DL-EDGE
· rank 344
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jasheen Davis this early at slot 249. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
