A solid, sensible weekend for the Cowboys: B.

The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Barryn Sorrell at slot 216 regardless, 99 picks early. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Howard pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In the 12th pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 50
Tre Harris at pick 55 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Maxwell Hairston · CB · rank 73
Nothing to complain about; Maxwell Hairston went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 83
A reasonable price with a little left over, Carson Schwesinger in Round 3, Pick 23. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Will Howard · QB · rank 103
They will replay Will Howard at slot 149 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.20 · Pick 158 · Nohl Williams · CB · rank 177
Nohl Williams at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.21 · Pick 159 · Logan Brown · OT · rank 143
Logan Brown in pick 159 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Willie Lampkin · OG · rank 169
They paid sticker price for Willie Lampkin in pick No. 170, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 181
A straight-up fair deal on Oronde Gadsden II at the 174th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
R6.3 · Pick 179 · Damien Martinez · RB · rank 148
Damien Martinez in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.12 · Pick 188 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 183
They did well to land Jay Higgins in slot 188, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 203
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Hancock at Round 6, Pick 35. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.38 · Pick 214 · Seth McLaughlin · C · rank 241
A real head-scratcher, Seth McLaughlin in the 214th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.40 · Pick 216 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 315
Value said wait; Barryn Sorrell in No. 216 says they were not listening. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Tonka Hemingway · DT · rank 252
They took Tonka Hemingway at par in the 247th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
