The Cowboys did not so much draft Oluwafemi Oladejo as overpay for him, 89 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Ewers pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that.
Jahdae Barron at the 44th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Warren in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Oluwafemi Oladejo well ahead of where he belonged. A minor itch, scratched.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 170th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Quinn Ewers at slot 171 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 174th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
CJ West at slot 188 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 211 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Upton Stout still on the board at Round 7, Pick 31. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
