Thirty-one other rooms let Jalen Milroe slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at the Round 5 slot. Highway robbery. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Hassanein reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
They barely believed it either: Travis Hunter still on the board at the 44th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ashton Jeanty in the 76th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Tommi Hill in Round 5, Pick 11, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jay Higgins at slot 170 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a quarterback like Jalen Milroe reach pick No. 171 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Ahmed Hassanein, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 188 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Joshua Gray at the 211th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Aydan White well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
