Some picks age like wine; Barryn Sorrell at pick No. 211 will need to, sitting 104 spots clear of his grade. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They banked enough surplus on Dike to cover a lot of smaller sins. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tre Harris in the 55th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Carson Schwesinger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jacob Parrish at pick No. 125 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Nohl Williams in the 149th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Anthony Belton in pick 158, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Vernon Broughton still on the board at Round 5, Pick 32. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a quarterback like Tyler Shough reach the 171st overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Oronde Gadsden II at the 174th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Addison West at slot 188, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Hancock in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached a country mile for Barryn Sorrell at pick 211, and the board is aghast. A minor itch, scratched.
Chimere Dike at No. 247 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
