The Cowboys spent real capital to be 99 picks early on Barryn Sorrell, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kaleb Johnson in Round 2, Pick 12 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Denzel Burke at pick 76 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeffrey Bassa in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kurtis Rourke at slot 171 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on JJ Pegues at pick No. 174, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ajani Cornelius slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Miles Frazier in slot 188, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jermari Harris at No. 211 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Barryn Sorrell at the 216th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid a round early for Moliki Matavao in pick 247, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
