Call it larceny. Will Howard sat on the board until the 171st pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The cost of the Sorrell reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Dylan Sampson at Round 2, Pick 12 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Carson Schwesinger in the 76th overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jacob Parrish in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Aeneas Peebles at the 170th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Will Howard at slot 171 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Nohl Williams at par in No. 174, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Addison West at pick 188 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Barryn Sorrell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
