Thirty-one other rooms let Andrew Mukuba slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The Oladejo reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The Germaine Pratt pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 17 they get a bell-cow for the offense, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kenneth Grant in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Emeka Egbuka at the 49th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Carson Schwesinger in Round 3, Pick 12, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 117 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Dylan Fairchild come to them and pounced at slot 119. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Ozzy Trapilo reach pick 149 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Shough still on the board at the 170th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Oronde Gadsden II at Round 5, Pick 33 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Oluwafemi Oladejo in No. 174 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Andrew Mukuba in pick 188 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking Ajani Cornelius in slot 193 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Miles Frazier in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Tommi Hill at the 247th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
