Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

There is reaching, and then there is Barryn Sorrell at the 211th pick. The Cowboys jumped the board by 104 and dared it to prove them wrong.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Nelson. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 21
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at the 44th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 83
They took Carson Schwesinger at par in pick 76, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · KeAndre Lambert-Smith · WR · rank 185
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in pick No. 149 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Kurtis Rourke · QB · rank 135
Kurtis Rourke at slot 171 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Cobee Bryant · CB · rank 175
No edge and no loss on Cobee Bryant in the 174th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Nohl Williams · CB · rank 177
Taking Nohl Williams in Round 6, Pick 28 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 315
Barryn Sorrell at the 211th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 240
Miles Frazier at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Jack Nelson · OT · rank 170
They barely believed it either: Jack Nelson still on the board at pick No. 247. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
