The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 97 spots for Jasheen Davis, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Shough at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a featured back, and a steal at that.
Tre Harris at pick 44 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Denzel Burke at the 76th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach No. 149 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Shough in slot 171 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Oronde Gadsden II at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on Miles Frazier in the 204th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, CJ West at No. 211 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for John Williams in the 239th overall pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Jasheen Davis at Round 7, Pick 31, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
