The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jihaad Campbell, Round 4, Pick 16, roughly 77 picks past where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The Sorrell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Kaleb Johnson in pick 46, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Maxwell Hairston in slot 76, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Jihaad Campbell still on the board at Round 4, Pick 16. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalen Milroe at No. 149 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Logan Brown in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hayden Conner. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Luke Lachey higher than the 204th overall pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tommi Hill in slot 211 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Antwaun Powell-Ryland here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
A real head-scratcher, Barryn Sorrell in the 239th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
The board fumbled Nohl Williams all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
