The Jasheen Davis selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 98 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
The Rourke pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in slot 12: Ashton Jeanty for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Tre Harris at the 44th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jack Bech at No. 76. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Mello Dotson higher than pick 149, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Nohl Williams in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Kurtis Rourke all the way to Round 5, Pick 36, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Hayden Conner in pick 204 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
John Williams at the 211th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ty Hamilton in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Jasheen Davis at the 247th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
