Dallas Cowboys

Alexander should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Darius Alexander had no business being available in the 211th overall pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

The Sorrell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 3
The board had Abdul Carter higher than pick 12, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 32
Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Jayden Higgins · WR · rank 68
Jayden Higgins slid further than he should have, and slot 76 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Kobe King · LB · rank 131
Somehow Kobe King was still sitting there in the 149th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Tommi Hill · CB · rank 155
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tommi Hill in No. 171. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Jackson Slater · OG · rank 146
Taking Jackson Slater in Round 5, Pick 36 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Chase Lundt · OT · rank 164
They barely believed it either: Chase Lundt still on the board at the 204th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 127
Darius Alexander at pick No. 211 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 315
Barryn Sorrell in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Ben Yurosek · TE · rank 260
The board had cheaper options than Ben Yurosek at Round 7, Pick 31, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
