Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick 211 on Barryn Sorrell, a name most had 104 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Felton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kenneth Grant in No. 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 149 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kobe King at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Chase Lundt, who had no business lasting to the 174th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jonah Monheim reach No. 204 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Barryn Sorrell at Round 6, Pick 35 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Oronde Gadsden II in the 239th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Donovan Smith in pick 247 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
