The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 100 spots for Barryn Sorrell, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Getting Dotson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Tetairoa McMillan went about where he belonged in pick No. 12. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyler Warren at No. 44 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dylan Sampson at the 76th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Joshua Farmer at pick 150 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Cody Simon at the 170th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Tyler Shough here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 174th pick is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Mello Dotson still on the board at Round 6, Pick 12. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Barryn Sorrell in No. 211 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid sticker price for Logan Parr in pick 249, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
