Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent Round 7, Pick 23 on Jasheen Davis, a name most had 116 spots down the list. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
That Milroe pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omarion Hampton is a better player than the 44th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Luther Burden III here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Danny Stutsman in pick 149 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Jalen Milroe at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Ajani Cornelius at No. 174 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hayden Conner in Round 6, Pick 28, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ty Hamilton at pick 211 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jasheen Davis in the 239th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They liked Jackson Hawes enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 247. A need, and now a little less of one.
