Dallas Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Warren: B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Tyler Warren tumbling to the Cowboys in the 44th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

The cost of the Marshall Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In the 14th overall pick they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 16
Tyler Warren at the 44th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Jayden Higgins · WR · rank 69
Good price on Jayden Higgins in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.15 · Pick 117 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 110
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 117 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Tyler Shough · QB · rank 141
Tyler Shough slid further than he should have, and slot 149 is lovely value for the quarterback. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Quincy Riley · CB · rank 178
Quincy Riley in pick No. 171 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Jason Marshall Jr. · CB · rank 202
Jason Marshall Jr. at Round 5, Pick 36 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson · OT · rank 199
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in pick 204 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Addison West · OG · rank 210
Addison West at pick 211 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Jackson Hawes · TE · rank 254
They jumped the gun on Jackson Hawes, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Tonka Hemingway · DT · rank 255
They paid a round early for Tonka Hemingway in the 247th pick, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
