Nobody else had Barryn Sorrell anywhere near the Round 6 slot. The Cowboys did, by 115 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. On value alone, Thornton Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.

They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 12
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 31
Value with a capital V on Omarion Hampton in pick 44, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Maxwell Hairston · CB · rank 76
Maxwell Hairston in the 76th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.17 · Pick 118 · Will Howard · QB · rank 107
Nice patience on Will Howard, who had no business lasting to pick No. 118. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 129
Circle this one: Darius Alexander at No. 150 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 179
A premium they did not need to pay, Jay Higgins a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 180
Oronde Gadsden II at Round 5, Pick 33 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 177
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Reed at pick No. 174 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.17 · Pick 195 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 310
A big swing on Barryn Sorrell at the 195th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.20 · Pick 198 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 174
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 198, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 195
They let Jordan Hancock come to them and pounced at pick 211. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.9 · Pick 227 · Cody Lindenberg · LB · rank 240
The board had cheaper options than Cody Lindenberg at the 227th pick, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Eric Gregory · DL · rank 271
Eric Gregory in No. 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
