You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jaydon Blue at slot 211, roughly 100 spots before his name belonged.

Grant at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 12
In the 17th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 16
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 41
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 49. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 55
Steal is underselling it; TreVeyon Henderson at slot 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.17 · Pick 118 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 85
Donovan Jackson at the 118th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Kyle McCord · QB · rank 124
Somehow Kyle McCord was still sitting there in No. 150, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. The roster fit checks out.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Gunnar Helm · TE · rank 97
They will replay Gunnar Helm at slot 170 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Charles Grant · OT · rank 98
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 172 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.3 · Pick 181 · Tommi Hill · CB · rank 154
Circle this one: Tommi Hill at the 181st pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 177
Jaylen Reed at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Jaydon Blue · RB · rank 311
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaydon Blue in the 211th overall pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.39 · Pick 217 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 310
They reached into another round for Barryn Sorrell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Jasheen Davis · DL-EDGE · rank 340
Jasheen Davis in No. 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
