You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jasheen Davis at slot 249, roughly 94 spots before his name belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Shough. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Kaleb Johnson in slot 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Carson Schwesinger at the 76th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Darius Alexander all the way to Round 5, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Tyler Shough at pick No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid a round early for Oronde Gadsden II in pick 172, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ajani Cornelius in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Quincy Riley at slot 190 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Miles Frazier well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Jasheen Davis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
