The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 94 spots for Jasheen Davis, and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McCord. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tyleik Williams in No. 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Carson Schwesinger at the 76th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kyle McCord at slot 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
They paid a round early for Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a cornerback like Tommi Hill reach the 174th pick and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Jack Nelson in Round 6, Pick 12 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylen Reed in the 211th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jasheen Davis at slot 249 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
